In the city of Tijuana, countless stray dogs and cats roam the streets every day. United Hope for Animals (UHFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the animals in this city.

For many years, electrocution was the only method used to put down animals in Tijuana and many other parts of Mexico.  In August 2006, through the efforts of UHFA and the cooperation of the Tijuana pound (the perrera), the electrocutions have ceased.  UHFA now provides euthanol to the perrera, and their trained volunteer veterinarian technicians offer gentle passing for dogs, which would otherwise suffer electrocution.

Each month UHFA and the Humane Society de Tijuana hold a free spay and neuter clinic in Tijuana. Through their combined efforts, more than a thousand pets have been spayed or neutered. Spaying or neutering even one pet could ultimately stop the suffering of thousands of homeless pets. UHFA facilitate the rescue, foster care, and adoption of animals whenever possible, and they offer education and support to those involved in the care of animals.

The United Hope for Animals is featured in an upcoming episode of Dog Whisperer. They are a non-profit organization and exist solely on volunteers and donations.
