    katrina Story

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana as the third most powerful storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. In addition to the horrendous loss of life and property, thousands of beloved pets of the victims were left behind.

A cry rang out across the nation and numerous animal shelters rose to the occasion, sending help to the pets that were stranded by the storm. Tom and Valerie Schomburg were two volunteers who made their way to the Big Easy to rescue as many animals as they could. Cheri Lucas, founder of Second Chance at Love Humane Society, also responded to the nation's plea for help by sheltering twenty dogs for Operation Rescue Ruff-u-gee.

Cheri had picked three dogs from her group that seemed to be the most traumatized and unstable; Cesar volunteered to take them in. Cesar plans to rehabilitate them and with a little help from his wife Ilusion, hopefully find the dogs' original owners or new homes for the three canines.

Also on this episode, Burl Barer is an investigative crime journalist and novelist. Judy Faye is a Broadway diva. The two met on the internet, and it was love at first sight. That was until Burl's dog Isis met Judy's dog Tina. Isis, a pit bull, and Tina, a pit bull mix, are very aggressive towards each other. The fights have become so bad that, when Judy and Burl are together, they must leave at least one dog in the yard. Judy and Burl are as much in love with their dogs as they are with each other, so leaving the dogs at home is not an option. With talk of marriage and moving in floating in the air, a future together may not happen if the dogs can’t get along.

Cesar is called in to bridge the rift between Tina and Isis to help bring Judy and Burl closer together. Can Cesar complete this love connection?

Finally, Russ and Nancy Briley adopted Nugget, a Blue Tick Hound/Great Dane mix, from a local shelter when he was just two months old. As he grew larger, so did his appetite. Nugget developed a taste for soccer cones, dish towels, the wood from his owner's box spring, rugs, and even the family trampoline, which resulted in emergency surgery for the dog. With home accessories turning up in pieces and the carpet being trashed, the Briley's have decided that it's time to get some help.

DON'T FORGET TO WATCH DOG WHISPERER EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT AT 8P.M. ET/PT, ON THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL. CHECK YOUR LOCAL LISTINGS FOR DETAILS!

    DogChannel.com

Check out Cesar's latest contribution to DogChannel.com with his comments on how to start your relationship with a new puppy:

For your puppy to grow into a healthy, balanced dog, you must demonstrate leadership from day one.

New puppy owners often make the mistake of endlessly worrying about finding the right puppy treats or bed. They spend little or no time worrying about how or what they will teach their new puppy.

Yes, a puppy needs nutritious food and a safe, warm place to live. But another equally powerful and important biological necessity is the need for a strong pack leader to serve as the dominant source of alpha energy in their lives.

Puppies are naturally hard-wired to follow a pack leader. A pack leader is, by definition, strong, stable and consistent - traits many new puppy owners forget around their dogs. I have had clients who are strong leaders in their jobs, but when they come home they turn to mush with their dogs. Then they come to me, puzzled as to why their dog won’t "behave." Puppies sense our confidence levels and will take control if they perceive us as weak. When dogs or puppies take control, "bad" behaviors, such as excessive barking, leash-pulling, or anxiety, will develop.

The most important thing you can do is to become your puppy’s pack leader. This role doesn’t begin when your dog is six months old or when he’s “bad.” For your puppy to grow into a healthy, balanced dog, you must demonstrate leadership from day one.

Here are some important points to remember in your role as pack leader:

The New CMI Web Site is Here!
    Cesar Millan Center

Cesar Millan, Inc. starts off the month of February with the launch of the newly revamped Cesar Millan, Inc. website.

The new site is divided into four divisions that make up the Cesar Millan umbrella. This includes Cesar Millan, Inc.; the hit cable show, "Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan"; The Dog Psychology Center of Los Angeles; and the new Cesar Millan Products' site based on animal friendly products from the Dog Psychology Center and Cesar Millan Inc.

Currently, Cesar cannot take on any new clients. For all those who have asked Cesar for help with their dogs, we encourage you to visit the new Dog Psychology Center page on the site. It includes a list of ways you can find a canine professional that can help you with any problems you may have.

We strongly encourage you to keep revisiting the site as we will continue to add more information every month. Right now the site is only at the beginning stages of being a complete reflection of Cesar’s philosophy and methods, a resource center on how to reach professionals around the country, and a way to find information that can help you improve your relationship with dogs.

People Training For Dogs DVD Success Stories
    Success Story

I bought the DVD and wanted you to know I saw a huge difference in my schnauzer, Mickey, after just one day.

We are now going on two walks a day...and I don't allow him to walk ahead of me. I have become the leader and his behavior has shifted dramatically.

WOW...I was doing all the wrong things with this puppy. After watching the DVD I understood the theory behind raising a balanced dog. I thought all the love in the world was enough, but not so. My husband has noticed the difference too.

I just wanted to say thank you and I am passing the DVD around at work. Caesar is just a miracle for dogs and for us dog owners. Thanks a million.

Fabulous Introduction to Understanding Dog Psychology - A "Must Have" For Every Dog Owner

I have done pet behavior counseling for many years so I thought I knew a few things about dogs. That is until I discovered Cesar Millan's TV show "The Dog Whisperer". Then I realized how much more there was to learn. So I was thrilled when his DVD "People Training for Dogs" was released and couldn't wait for it to arrive.

Since I've taped all his shows, I was glad that this DVD was primarily an hour long lecture on dog psychology. I was most impressed with the content. Cesar covers all the key elements we 'humans' need to understand (including the 'why' of it all) in order to become the calm and assertive pack leader that is so crucial in creating that perfect canine/human relationship.

I also like that the DVD contains a Chapter Section, making it quick and easy to review specific segments of information. And the section on Cesar feeding his 30+ pack of dogs was amazing to say the least.

I can't say enough good things about this DVD. It contains a wealth of valuable information and insights that every dog owner can benefit from knowing. I HIGHLY recommend it for every dog owner, but almost more importantly, for every person even contemplating having a dog as part of their household. This is critical information you need to know and understand so it can be implemented from day one, thus eliminating the potential for bad behaviors to manifest.
