| Cesar's Co-Stars: Profiles of Pack Members – Pepito
When it comes to sharing a living space, most of us are conditioned to expect some serious drama from certain red-flag roommate situations. That's what comes from a cultural diet of Real World reruns and small claims court television. So your Average Joe dog owner might expect the fur to fly when three ordinary American pit bulls get together under one roof. But Pepito and his roommates aren't ordinary pit bulls…
Together with Lucy and Dottie, Pepito rounds out our pack profile Roommate Series - three calm submissive pit bulls living together in harmony with Christine, a close friend of the Dog Psychology Center. Pepito came to live with Christine when he was 7 months old. She gave him the name because he was so tiny - a physical trait he soon quite literally grew out of! He has since grown to enormous size, far outstripping his father, Cesar Millan's own calm submissive partner, Daddy.
Born at the DPC, Pepito was raised by another pit called Rosemary, whose strong nursing instincts led her to act as a Nanny for some of Daddy's puppies. Perhaps as a result of this surrogate parentage, Pepi found himself drawn immediately to Christine's pit bull Lucy, who closely resembled Rosemary. The chemistry was undeniable, and soon Pepito was officially adopted.
Today he works with Dottie and Lucy to soften the image of the large American pit bull. Both he and Dottie wear their bright red exercise backpacks when Christine takes them grocery shopping. And with the purchase of a brand new Radio Flyer red wagon, Christine intends to put Pepito's size to work for them, allowing him to utilize his extra energy to haul their groceries home. Side by side, they look almost comical - nearly always lined up in order of size, calm and friendly with matching pit bull "smiles" - and it's hard to imagine how anyone might think that such a balanced pack might have trouble getting along.
